The end of a memorable visit: H.M.S. New Zealand leaving Auckland Harbour on Saturday Morning last. It was almost exactly 27 years since the great eruption of Mount Tarawera, in Auckland thermal district. On June 10, 1886, the mountain broke into a violent eruption, causing widespread damage in the surrounding country. The pink and white terraces, which were one of the glories of the district, were totally destroyed, while 101 persons lost their lives through being buried under heaps of ashes...
