The Tekapo River blocked by a temporary coffer dam with the old suspension bridge behind (demolished in 1954). The earth coffer dam was built to keep the work site dry and also to hold the lake at a level that would allow water to go through the intake down to the power station (the power station was functioning before the dam was finished), and the new dam under construction in the foreground.
