These photographs taken when the strong Japanese forces conducted a determined offensive against the Chinese in the province of Jehol situated between Chine proper and the new state of Manchukuo established by the Japanese. Left: A Chinese machine- gun crew at their post. Right: Fully-equipped Chinses infantry reinforcements marching to the front line.
