The installation of the new sluice gate in the Diversion tunnel, the last major constructional task at Arapuni hydro-electric works, Auckland Province, nearing completion. The gate is at the bottom of a deep shaft and will be operated by lifting gear at the surface. These photographs were taken during the erection of the huge cylinder which is to contain the hydraulic lifting machinery.
