Description

Two remarkable diamonds found by prospectors in the South African diamond field in Elandsfontein, near Pretoria. Photo on the left displays the larger stone, weighing 726 carats seen in comparison to the shilling which was sold for 75,000 pounds. Photo on the right shows the digger of the stone Jacobus Jonker handing over the stone to Sir Ernest Oppenheimer, chairman of the Diamond Corporation at the completion of the purchase.
