Description

A graphic picture in Edward VII Avenue, busy thoroughfare of the International Settlement, near the junction with the Bund, as Japanese forces bombarded the city following the outbreak of war at Shanghai on August 14. Since the initial Japanese offensive on that date Shanghai has borne the storm centre of the conflict, and has suffered terribly as air raids, bombardment and Sino-Japanese clashes have continued with daily frequency throughout the city and its environs.
