Poster for a Dog Tax imposed by the Hokianga County Council in the 1890s. Text: "Dog Tax. Hokianga County. The undersigned having been appointed registrar of dogs for the Hokianga County, doth hereby notify settlers and others in the __ neighbourhood that he or his deputy will attend at __ on the __ day __ of __ , 189_, to register all dogs.
