Professor Meihana Durie with his mother, Professor Arohia Durie, and father, Professor Emeritus Mason Durie at the pōwhiri for Professor Meihana Durie of Rangitāne, Ngāti Kauwhata, Ngāti Raukawa, Ngāti Porou, Rongo Whakaata, Ngāi Tahu, at Te Pūtahi-ā-Toi on 15 May 2017. This was on the occasion of Professor Durie becoming head of Te Pūtahi-ā-Toi / School of Māori Art, Knowledge and Education. Professor Durie's father, Sir Mason Durie, had established the School 20 years prior.
