- Description
World War Two broke out just as New Zealand was preparing to celebrate 100 years as a nation. Some people felt that the planned celebrations shouldn’t go ahead. Others thought they would be a great builder of national spirit at a time when it was most needed. The Centennial Exhibition was held in Wellington and ran for 6 months. Visitors were amazed by its size and dazzled by the use of electric and neon lighting. Exhibits emphasised modern progress in all its forms
