This t-shirt references the people and history of Banaba, a small raised atoll located west of Kiribati in Micronesia of the Pacific. In the early twentieth century, Banaba was found to consist of high-grade phosphate which prompted the foreign based Pacific Islands Phosphate Company (PIPC) to establish a mining settlement on the island.
