The actor Anzac Wallace is being remembered not only for a groundbreaking film role but as a community activist and leader. The 76-year-old, who's best known for his role as Te Wheke in Geoff Murphy's 1983 film Utu, died on Monday after a long struggle with cancer. The MP Willie Jackson got to know Wallace in the late 1970s when he was a key union organiser during the protracted Mangere Bridge construction project dispute.
