Description

The first section of the 580 foot arched central section of the bridge was built on top of the existing section of bridge between piers 5 and 6. Once it was completed, the supporting section was detached and both sections were floated out on pontoons at high tide. The arch section was attached in its final position between piers 2 and 3.
