Description

View east across Little Shoal Bay from Birkenhead Point, with Northcote Point in the background and the peak of Mt. Victoria (Devonport) in the distance, extreme left. In the foreground, the ferry Tainui approaches the old Birkenhead Wharf. A second double-masted boat is berthed at the Northcote Wharf, far end of Northcote Point. Historical note: This wooden wharf was built in 1882 and replaced in 1909 by a new concrete wharf further west. (The Story of Birkenhead / Margaret McClure, 1987 p.92)
