The Northern Steam Company's ferry SS Taniwha approaching the wharf at Browns Bay. The Taniwha was purpose-built for the Paeroa service, and was also used as an excursion vessel (as here in this photograph). Historical note: The Taniwha was built for the Northern Steamship Company Ltd. in 1898 by Robert Logan Snr. of Auckland. Mainly used for the Paeroa service, she was also a popular excursion vessel
