Description

Dennis fire engine parked in front of the Birkenhead fire station. The original building, on Mokoia Road, was of reinforced concrete construction and was opened in 1931, the same year the Birkenhead Fire Board was formed. The Dennis fire engine was bought out from England that year also, and was first registered in NZ in 1932. In 1964 it was decomissioned from the fire service and bought by a trust.
