Description

The back of the Sulphur works, (managed by Thomas Hilditch), at Sulphur Beach, Northcote, taken on 5th May 1884. Visible in the photograph is the wharf and tram tracks to the works. Bayswater can be seen across the harbour. Historical note: Sulphur Beach in Shoal Bay (on the eastern side of Northcote Point) was lost during land reclamation during the construction of the Auckland Harbour Bridge in the 1950s.
