Description

From shaded entrance of the wooden Beach Haven and Birkdale wharf with views along the wharf and across to Hobsonville. Historical note: The wharf is thought to have been built on its present site in 1887. At Christmas time in 1937 it was partially destroyed by fire. The Harbour Board then altered it by making it a few feet narrower and making the steps and landing stage in a different way. At the same time, the cargo facilities, consisting of a crane, a set of rails and trolley were taken away.
