A lone horseman ambles down the street; three local Maori are gathered on the corner to his right; two women take advantage of the shade under the willow tree beyond. This photograph was taken looking northwards along the main street, now Queen Street, towards the wharf. The two-storey building on the right, on the intersection of the main street and the Mauku Road, later Kitchener Road, was built for shopkeeper James Adams in 1874. I...
