Description

A view of 'Hillside', the home of Mr James Wallace, Papatoetoe, ca 1885. In 1851, James and his brother John bought 251 acres in a low-lying and partly swampy area to the south-west of Otahuhu. They were the first European settlers in the central part of what became known as Papatoetoe. On 25 May 1857 the Wallace brothers divided their property.
