Excursionists disembarking from the Northern Steamship Company Ltd paddle steamer 'Wakatere' at the Bucklands Beach wharf, 1920. This seems to be the occasion of which local historian and later long-time Bucklands Beach resident Geoff Fairfield wrote: "The usual run of the paddle steamer 'Wakatere' was from Auckland to Thames, calling in at Waiheke Island.
