Description

The Hattaway family outside Hawthorn Dene, Botany Road, near Howick, 1892. Robert Hattaway Jnr poses with his wife Martha (nee Granger) and their three oldest children, Rose, Robert and Violet. The house had been built by hotel-keeper Benjamin Lewis or his son Francis on his farm to the south of Howick about 1855, then purchased by Robert Hattaway Snr of Cascade Farm in the 1870s.
