Description

Disgruntled 12-year-old Ross Tonkins of Papatoetoe kneels alongside his bicycle, which is minus its rear wheel. Ross was playing with friends in the Puhinui Creek at Wiri when he left his bike hidden in some scrub, but returned to find the wheel had been stolen. His sister had lost her entire bike to thieves just a year before. Photograph published in the South Auckland Courier Central Edition, 1 September 1971, p. 15.
