Description

Manurewa's famous Norfolk pine blazing with lights at Christmas time, ca 1950. In 1911 Manurewa resident Mr E.W. Dalton planted the tree in front of his house on the Great South Road. In 1937 Mr Dalton's house, which can also be seen in the photograph, became the Manurewa police station and residence. This was for some years the home of the aptly named Constable Edward Christmas. Manurewa Borough Council first illuminated the Norfolk pine as a Christmas attraction in 1950
