Two women and a child are on the verandah of a hip roofed weatherboard villa. The house features four-light double-hung sash windows and fretworked brackets at the top of the verandah posts. Marshall Laing's farm was on the floor of the Parau valley now under the waters of the Lower Nihotupu dam. His house was situated on the western side of the stream a little way in from the road.
