A Model T Ford on the old West Coast Road (now Piha Road), with the 'Lone Kauri' tree in the background. The Waitemata County Council had the Lone Kauri felled in August 1935 on the grounds that it posed a threat to motorists. See New Zealand Herald, 21 August 1935, Page 12
