Description

Bulldozer at base of top of large rock mass on Piha hill with workmen laying charges during the project to remove the rock. View west out to the coast in the background. Historical note: "In 1963 the Waitemata County Council set about removing the Dome Rock above Piha which was threatening to crash onto the road. Holes were drilled in the rock for blasts of gelignite." (Sandra Coney in Piha, a history in images, 1997, p.177).
