Description

View south of the Piha Tramway on trestles showing its route along the beach crossing the Wekatahi Creek, with Lion Rock in the background. Historical note: "About 1916 the railway was extended along North Piha beach to reach stands of timber in the Marawhara and Anawhata valleys. The line crossed the Wekatahi Stream (called Maori Garden Creek by the millers) before heading over the ridge to Anawhata." (Piha: A history in images by Sandra Coney (1997), p.52).
