The railway through Te Puke was opened to passenger and goods traffic in October 1913, but the need for a railway was articulated by the Minister of Public Works in 1909, the Honourable Roderick McKenzie when he said “The Government is strongly impressed with the importance for a trunk railway through the important Bay of Plenty district……and considers that now is the time to make a commencement with the work" Cars had made an appearance by the time this was taken although if you look closel...
