- Description
Humans have been fascinated with the stars for thousands of years, but were unable to visit space until the 20th century. Space exploration began in 1957 when the Soviet Union launched Sputnik 1, the first artificial satellite into orbit around earth. Since then there have been thousands of missions into space – both manned and unmanned. We explore space to understand more about Earth, the solar system, and the universe beyond.
