A cartoon of an army officer at a recruiting station holding the lid of a sanitary dustbin up to the face of a compulsory recruit and asking him if he can see it. When the recruit responds that he can, the officer asks him what it is. The recruit answers: Two bob or 'alf a crown. The officer also holds a large copy of the letter A, and other letters and an eye test poster are attached to the wall and lie on the floor.
