The thermal regions of New Zealand. Showing part of the Waimangu Volcanic Valley after the hydro-thermal eruption of 1 April 1917 during which the area known as Frying Pan Flat exploded. This resulted in the enlargement of the western part of Echo Crater, while smaller subcraters became filled with boiling subterranean water subsequently named Frying Pan Lake (Waimangu Cauldron).
