Description

Showing crew members of the American submarine K1 loading aboard a torpedo in 1917. The torpedo is suspended on a pulley fastened to its propeller as nine crew members guide its nose through the hatch into the submarine's hull. K1 was one of several American K-Class submarines stationed in the Azores in the North Atlantic and tasked with the protection of convoys.
