Description

Drawing showing Captain Cook observing the New Zealand coast in 1769. New Zealand was discovered in 1642 by Tasman, who did not land there. The first European to set foot on its shores was Captain Cook, who spent six months sailing room the islands. From a drawing by R. Caton Woodville in the Illustrated London News.
