Description

Showing two store-houses from the Māori collection in the Auckland Museum. The larger store-house or pataku was formerly the property of Te Pokiha Taramu, chief of Ngatipikiao Tribe. Built about 1868. It is 35 feet long, By 20 feet broad, and 15 feet high. Sides are carved elaborately, yet boldly with grotesque figures. The ridge boards are carved with lizards, And the bable boards with some mythological animal, probably a type of taniwha
