- Description
World War One, also called the First World War or the Great War, took place between 1914 and 1918. New Zealand was part of the British Empire then, so we joined the war as one of the Allies (the British Empire, France, Russia and others) to fight against the Central Powers (German Empire, Italy, Ottoman Empire and others). The involvement in the war had a huge impact on life for all New Zealanders.
