This banner was made for the National Peace Ribbon Day on 19 October 1986. It was New Zealand's most successful activity for the United Nations International Year of Peace, and was organised by the government-appointed Aoteoroa Committee for United Nations International Year of Peace. People gathered in Wellington to tie their individual banners into a ribbon which stretched from the Soviet Embassy in Karori to the United States Embassy in Thorndon - a distance of over eight kilometres.
