Photograph of Cobb & Co on The Strand in Tauranga 2015. In 2015 retiree Rodney Giddens undertook to provide a photographic record of shop fronts from the roadside of Tauranga’s CBD. Between Wharf and Spring Streets. First European activity on this site was a timber yard then in 1876 Conway, a local builder, built the first Commercial Hotel. Fire destroyed the hotel and other buildings in The Strand in 1916. A new hotel designed by H Clemson was built by Ashton & Crump of concrete constructi...
