40' x 100' steel barge (approximately 60-70 tons) being transported over the Kaimai Ranges to Hamilton for the Cobham Street bridge. Preparations for the move took 2 days. This photo shows barge going up the Tauranga side of the Kaimai Ranges. It had to be towed up steep hills, and it tipped off near McLaren's Falls causing the road to be closed for 2 days. c. 1956-8
