New Zealand’s National Film Unit presents 'Polar Exercise' (1956) To train for the polar expedition, New Zealand members of the Antarctic party spend a period in the Mount Cook area. After training their husky dogs at the base camp, the party moves up the Tasman Glacier. Here dog training is intensified, equipment and techniques to be used in the Antarctic are tested, and special attention paid to the use and landing of planes on ice surfaces.
