- Description
This is a glass number 9 Hemingray telegraph insulator manufactured by the Hemingray Glass Manufacturing Company in America from the 1890's to the 1940s. It was designed, primarily for rural use, to insulate the electrical wires they carry so that the electricity (or telephone calls) does not leak into the pole and into the earth. Glass and ceramic are preferred materials for the manufacture of insulators as they are poor conductors of electricity.
