Description

This is growing at the base of a living tree, appears to be causing a bit of rot. The tree is a red oak and has no leaves just now. It's growing on the grassy verge on our street. I know Pleurotus is supposed to be saprobic but I gotta say, this is looking pretty pathogenic, so that's why I'm unsure if it is Pleurotus. About 100m down the road but on other side of the street, is a seemingly healthy living kowhai (also a street tree), on which I have also seen what I believe to be this species...
