Mangaroa River catchment lies east of Upper Hutt City (Figure 2). It drains a catchment of about 80 square kilometres in area, which includes hill and steep land on the western slopes of a part of the Remutaka Range, as well as the fans, terraces and flood plain system of the river. The southern part of its catchment has five main converging streams forming a series of coalescing fans.
