- Description
A blade from the Mechanical Pit Saw at Pattisons Mill at Kumeroa. Robert Pattison arrived in New Zealand in 1862, taking up land in Kumeroa in 1886. After clearing the bush he planted five acres in cherries and 20 acres in apples. The fully mechanised mill was used to mill all the timber including facings for the very large home that he built, which has been described as one of the finest examples of “Art Nouveau” in New Zealand.
