This whistle belonged to Arthur William Robb a farmer from Lochiel in Southland. the whistle was made in the second half of the 19th century by Dixon and son in Sheffield. It is a Sheffield Fipple Type and was advertised as a dog call whistle, which aligns with Arthur's work as a farmer. Arthur had an interesting life. He was originally a farmer from Trows in the Scottish Borders. He served as a Second Lieutenant in the British Army (King's Own Scottish Borderers) during World War One
