The grave of Nathaniel Bates in the Riverton Cemetery, a significant character in Riverton's early history. Nathaniel was born in Sydney in 1819, the son of an ex soldier from England; his mother was the daughter of an Irish soldier. Nathaniel was their sixth child. He was raised around and on the water, at Darling Harbour where his father ran a boat building business.
