A framed hand coloured photograph of Michael Reid and his son Barney Reid, gold mining at Orepuki. Michael Reid was born in Northern Ireland, at Aghadowey, in 1847. He married Elizabeth Agnes Louise Barlow, known as Margaret, in 1866, in Waterside, Derry. They had a family of three girls and two boys, including Barney, when they set sail for New Zealand in June of 1874. Their trip took them via Australia which was followed by five years in Dunedin, before they settled in Orepuki, by now with ...
