A studio portrait of George Tasman Dawson 'Tas' and his wife Annie Theresa Dawson (neé Crofts). George was the manager of the New Zealand Pine Company sawmill at Colac Bay. George founded the Colac Bay Rifles during the volunteer days and reached the rank of Major. In 1914 the Royal Humane Society awarded Mr Dawson the Stead Gold Medal for bravery: On 20 October 1913, at about 3pm, he was transferring logs from the bush to Colac Bay by locomotive.
