Herbert Arthur Wild was born at Lancashire, England, on 28 September 1849. At some point he immigrated to New Zealand where he married Florence Muggleton, in 1880, and had nine children. Florence was born in Melbourne, Australia, on 17 March 1861, she was the first child of Charles Arthur Muggleton and Margaret Oates, although Margaret had children from a previous relationship.
