A black and white photograph of a log hauler. Log haulers were used to haul sawn logs, from where they were cut down, to the tramline. They were moved to the work site on a bush tramway and anchored securely to counteract the pulling motion. They would burn wood offcuts to produce steam and used about 200 gallons of water a day. Early winches were single wire, and the rope had to be taken to the log by a horse every time. They were replaced with a twin winch system, which greatly improved eff...
