This is a clear glass rectangular shaped bottle with a glass and cork stopper embossed with the words 'Elliman's Embrocation'. This was first sold in 1847, as a rub for animals, and in 1850 it was being sold for use by humans for aching muscles and joints. Elliman claimed that the success of his embrocation was down to two things - the quality of the product, and to his policy of spending half his profits on advertising, an unusual move in those days.
